What Would I Do Without Self Storage?

What would I do if I were not scheduled to take calls for self storage inquiries? I have had a good many stressful jobs in my past. I was usually a problem solver, one of those people who always show up 5 minutes early and stay late. I was always ready to take on an extra project and to give my best every day. Sad to say it was not always appreciated. My talents were often overlooked and others sometimes got credit for my ideas. Many times I moved on just because the working atmosphere was degrading and discouraging.
Then I discovered the PhoneSmart call center. I came in with the idea that there probably would not be much to learn about beyond unit sizes and prices. As any insider will tell you there is a lot more to it all and especially when you are in a nationwide center taking calls 400 stores. We meet a wide spectrum of individuals from all across the country, not all of them in a good mood but all of them needing professional service. We are armed with excellent sales technique the desire to help our client stores experience sales increase by our efforts.
We field many information calls. There are people locked out and people locked in. There people trying to pay a bill and people who have paid their bill and are angry because the new bill does not reflect the payment. There are people demanding that we get the manager out of bed and people who think the store was open until 8 PM and are trying to get into the office at 10 PM and arguing with us that the store should be open.
There are indecisive people who make us crazy waffling on every point and there are harsh and demanding people who take every ounce of professional demeanor to deal with. There are those who are in tears and those who are cursing. There are store managers who are so friendly and so much fun that we look forward to having them call for voice mail messages. We take calls for them all, sometimes 60 or more calls in 8 hours. We take a deep breath at the end of a shift. Share a laugh and good wishes with our co workers and go home to recuperate. We will meet at the next shift and do it all again.
It keeps a roof over our heads and food on our tables. More than that we are rewarded for our efforts and feel appreciated by management. Call center life can be hard. None of the others that I have worked in are as relaxed and happy as this one. I guess I will hang around a while.
