What Was Your Name?

When a caller calls just to price shop whether it be because they will not be needing a storage unit until a few months from now, or they are just price shopping in general trying to find the convenient place for them, if that caller does not end up making a reservation but does ask for the customer specialist’s name, is that a good thing or a bad thing?  I believe most experienced customer service affiliates know more or less when they will get a sale or not.  Do we tend to change our sales pitch/customer service pitch when we know we will not get that reservation, and is the prospect picking up on that and thus asking for our name so they can know whom NOT to ask for when they call back?  Not necessarily.
We receive prospects’ calls from a vast region.  Let me give you and example; callers from New York, tend to be more edgy, and that is fine- I love New York and I love New Yorkers but ask any New Yorker and they will agree with me.  While they may sound what you may think as rude, they are actually not being rude at all.  I have found many of New York callers who initially call to get self storage prices, end up calling back and asking for me to reserve.  While we always like to mention our name when we answer the line for a specific client, when a prospect asks what particular names is, do not be afraid to proudly give it out.  Your mother was proud of give you the name you have and so should you be.
