What the Baby Boomers Need To Store

Last week I had the honor of hearing Mr. Ben Stein speak at the SSA Trade Show in Las Vegas. His topics bounced back and forth from his stock tips to his trademark dry sense of humor although the publicized topic he was to speak on was How The Baby Boomer Generation will affect self storage.
Here is the phrase about the Boomers that stuck with me. These folks will need storage for their treasures. They aren’t likely to drive around looking for or surf the web. They’re going to pick up the phone. When they pick up the phone, they’ll want to talk to a live person.
Now maybe it’s just the PhoneSmart in me, but my ears perked up a bit when I heard that last part- they are going to pick up the phone and want a live person. That means that self storage managers are going to receive even more rental inquiries via the telephone. This means that the phone skills of self storage managers are that much more important.
