Weathering the Property Management Business

Right now I am sitting at home snowed in, or iced in rather. It’s the first snow storm of the season and I’ve decided not to risk the 35 mile drive down a not-so-safe highway to get to work. There’s plenty to do from home so why take the chance of letting the weather get worse while I’m working or the chance of wrecking the car. The last thing anybody needs during the holiday season is a hefty deductible- or worse.
Joel, on the other hand, had to work today. As a retail manager, he doesn’t have the option of working from home when necessary. Fortunately he only works 5 minutes away so he’s close enough to head home if the weather turns nasty. As the weather threatens the safety of the roads and people tend to want to stay indoors with a good movie or book, it makes closing the sale opportunities you do have even more important.
Whether you’re a major closing department, electronic store or the customers you come in contact with during bad weather are probably more serious about purchasing your products and services. And your business is more serious about closing all the sales you can when there’s less traffic. A customer coming to store during bad weather is almost a sure thing because the fact that they’re out in it proves their need for . But that doesn’t mean you can’t lose them to the competition. It’s your job to “close the phone book”, as we like to say in the call center.
How do you do that? By providing the best service you possibly can. Because you probably won’t have too many distractions due to the weather, you can focus all of your attention to the customer in front of you or on the phone. Going out of your way to give them an extra smile or help make their transition into the storage unit easier will be more valuable than normal. They are most likely already dreading the move during poor weather conditions, so a friendly face or even a few freebies will make their day. Perhaps your business could consider a “winter weather special” to attract the customers who are still in the market.
