Sales over the telephone can be a little more difficult than face-to-face.  Obviously a store manager is able to actually demonstrate to a potential tenant the great security features and amenities provided, plus show them a 10×20 storage unit.  Over the telephone, PhoneSmart reps have to work hard to help a customer visualize everything.

To make sure our location will be convenient for the customer we try to give easy directions and landmarks.  The caller may have never noticed our location on Main Street, but they probably have been to the McDonald’s that is next door!

When we are describing the security features, we try to use descriptions the caller can relate to.  A good example of this is, Our management team actually lives on the property, so they take care of it like their own backyard!

Probably the most important visual we give is in relation to unit sizes.  Most people have no idea what a 10×20 storage unit is or how much it will hold.  That is why we explain that a one-car garage that will hold a two bedroom house plus major appliances. It is especially important to emphasize the amenities for a wine storage unit. With this description a light bulb usually goes off in the person’s head, and they know that is exactly the size they will need.  (We even have cheat sheets in every cubicle to help phone reps depict the different sized units.)

It is always important that the customer has a clear understanding of everything to do with the storage facility.  Using visuals is a great tool to help accomplish this task.
