The Sign On The Door Read Overland Park Storage
-
Walking up to her office door for the first time Lanie felt excited about her new job and her new title. The words on the placard that was slid into place at the side of the closed door read Overland Park storage manager, and beside it was Lanies name and a small picture of her that she had supplied upon accepting the position. She had been working as a sales representative for several years at the facility assisting customers with sizes and offering her knowledge about locking systems and packing alternatives. She had built up a wealth of information about the easiest, safest and most effective ways to pack and store. In fact, she had been there longer than anyone else so when the position of Overland Park storage manager came open she was a natural first pick for the job.
There had been some talk about them hiring outside the company, but apparently they had opted to do the right thing, as far as she was concerned, and let her take more responsibility at the place where she was already well regarded and well respected. Why go against the flow of prosperity? Her Overland Park storage manager position was going to give her a slight pay raise, but really, for Lanie, it was all about proving that she could run the shop more efficiently and make friends with the long and short term customers that she had the pleasure of meeting.
Lanie was a strong leadership role in the shop, but more than that, she had a great laugh and she smiled all the time. She was a charismatic, happy person who never hesitated to compliment someone or spread her great attitude through insightful observations and her welcoming positive energy. Instead of Overland Park storage manager, the sign on the door outside of Lanies office really should have read serious high energy source. It was normal for Lanie to be caught doing yoga on her break in the back room. In fact, she had even taught some postures to some of the other sales representatives.
Lanie had skill and assertiveness without being overbearing. She was the type of person that enjoyed taking personal responsibility for her own emotions and actions and she made sure that others realized that she expected them to be up front and authentic, as she was. Those that were not, however, were still treated with respect. As her first day as Overland Park storage manager came to a close, Lanie reviewed all of the ways in which her job had suddenly changed. She hoped that her friends and co workers did not automatically see her as a different person, and yet she also understood that her new title did change their working relationship somewhat, though she was going to make an effort to keep their personal interactions honest. She did have a lot to learn, she realized.
It was not every day that the people that she spent more time with than anyone else suddenly were asked to see her in a different light as a result of her promotion. The last thing that she wanted was to be seen as a threat to anyone and she vowed to keep her actions consistent with her relationships up until this point. She would not be the one who changed the dynamics of any of the personal relationships that she had with co workers, but she was interested to see how some of them would change nonetheless. If you like this entry, take a look at:
