The phrase, “How did you hear about us?” can lead to a sale. It is that plain and simple. If you ask someone how he or she heard about your self storage facility and they heard from a friend you are more likely to get a sale. If a customer badmouths you, you are going to lose business. The same works if your facility or property has made someone a happy customer. Most of the time the response I get to that question is they found it in the phonebook that is almost as good and one more way to get the word out about your self storage facility. Of course I had a call the other day that a woman had been referred by a friend and she had a coupon for a free months rent and the woman who referred her got a free months rent. So it’s a win win situation for everyone involved.
If your facility has an incentive for referrals you are more likely to draw in new business and also retain current clients. I know when I moved into my current residence and my friend needed a place to live I referred her and got $50 off my rent. I know if I could refer everyone and everyone rented there I would love that. That would mean $50 dollars off here and there. That’s what will happen if you start a referral incentive people love free rent and free money. So they will tell anyone that mentions anything about !
