The Kiosk Is King

Over the last several years the kiosk has become a very important property management tool in the self storage industry. Similar to how an ATM machine has become commonplace in the banking business, this self help machine is predicted to one day be a routine device in the self storage business.

The kiosk works great in areas such as renting units, taking after hour payments, and reducing staffing costs. This all helps to reduce a property owner’s overall expenses and increase occupancy rates.

The kiosk allows new customers to rent a unit without the assistance of a store employee. They are able to see a virtual diagram of the facility, get a self storage quote on different prices and promotions available, and to select their preferred storage unit. The machine usually has a video camera, as well as a fingerprint and driver’s license scanners for security purposes. The customer uses a digital signature reader to ensure the rental agreement is completely legal. They can even purchase a lock or rental insurance with the kiosk. 

Current tenants are able to inquire on their rental status and pay their bill without the help of a store manager. These customers do not have to worry about their payment being lost in the mail or misplaced in a drop box.

All of these patrons are able to pay using cash, check or money order. And an intercom can even be installed that connects directly to a customer service center such as PhoneSmart to help with any questions or concerns.

The kiosk is a magnificent new asset to any self storage property, large and small alike.
