The firms employ candidates who have some basic knowledge of the functioning of the business and the products and services offered by the firms in that business. The candidate should have a good sense of observation and have an aptitude for assessing those products and services that are being liked by the customers and those products and services for which the response is poor or negative.

These days they carry portable and compact computerized systems to access the internet whenever and wherever required. Internet gives them instantaneous access to a lot of information and helps them in communicating with their colleagues and seniors through e-mails. Hence the agents can avail expert information and advice whenever they want to. They are also advised to carry portable fax machines with them. Some firms advise their agents to record the proceedings in their assigned shop with a concealed digital camera. This will give the management of the firms an accurate idea of whatever is happening in their retail outlets. They do not have to depend on the narrations of the mystery shoppers alone, which might have some imperfections owing to biased perceptions etc.
The agents are expected to complete their allotted projects on time. The pay and incentives for the agents is decided upon by the quality of their work as well as their punctuality and promptness. The agents who perform well are given the most interesting and profitable assignments, such as to find self storage and their official status is also elevated with each successive project.
