Making a few extra dollars on the side is not nearly as hard as it used to be.  If you are looking to make a quick buck, then you might consider attending a few of the self storage auctions that are in your area.  While you may think that self storage units are simply full of junk, this is most certainly not the case.  Indeed, you are going to find that many self storage unit that go up for auction are a lot like treasure chests.  You truly never know, here, when you are going to find a unit that has a car in it, a bunch of antiques, jewelry, or something like that.  Of course, if you have never attended a self storage auction before, then you are going to want to take a few things into account before you show up.

The first thing that you are going to want to know, here, is that you cannot show up to a self storage auction without bringing your flashlight.  And really, you are going to want to be sure that you have a really nice flashlight.  Typically speaking, the auctions are going to adopt a blind bidding system, meaning that you are not allowed to enter the unit that you are bidding on.  All that you can do, here, is peer into the unit from the outside.  This, of course, is why you are going to want to be sure that you are carrying a nice and powerful flashlight when you attend your auctions.  A flashlight is going to let you get a nice view of the rear contents of the unit, meaning that you are going to be able to make a much more informed bid.  And really, when it comes down to making sure that you are not wasting your money, you are going to want to be sure that you gather as much information as possible before you begin to place your bids.

Moving on, here, you are also going to want to keep your eyes open for certain things when they open the door to a unit.  You are going to want to look for antiques, first of all, as these are typically going to make you a great deal of money.  Of course, you are also going to want to keep your eyes open for some tools.  If you come across a large, five foot tall tool shed, then you are going to want to get ready for a heated bidding war.  Of course, gun cabinets and army memorabilia are great things to keep your eyes open for as well, as these items are going to be rather easy to sell and they are going to make you a rather serious profit.

Finally, here, you are going to want to make sure that you show up with some help.  The last thing that you are going to want to do, here, is show up at your auction, win a unit, and have to deal with cleaning it out yourself.  You really do need some help when it comes to clearing out your unit, especially considering that most places are only going to give you twenty four hours to do it.

Once you have attended a few self storage auctions, you are not going to have to worry about a thing.  It only takes a few of these auctions for you to get a really solid feel for what you are going to have to do to stay ahead of the competition.  As with anything else that you choose to do, practice is what is going to make you perfect at your craft.
