Help! We Need A Storage Unit!
I am in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico. My family has a business in the Mercado (open air market) we sell spices, granola and dried fruits. Yesterday I worked in the market for 6 hours (thought I was on vacation). Many tourists come through the market on a daily basis. It is so interesting to see the “Americanos” walking around looking for something but not sure what they are looking for. The day turned out to be a slow the tourists just weren’t in the buying mood. Or maybe they were just counting their pennies.
I couldn’t help but notice in the small 10×10 space we have for our business that there was no room for storage. I asked my cousin Pina who is now the rightful owner, “where do you store the inventory”? Pina stated, “You know, at home we have a room for all of the extra sacks of dried goods that we sell”. So I had to ask, “how do you get the sacks to the market”? Pina told me that there is a man who walks around the market with dolly and when you need something you just yell at him as he is walking by. The guy (Beto), with the dolly, will walk the dolly to my cousin’s home. My aunt Phoebe who is always at home unlocks the bodega, Beto loads a few sacks onto the dolly and away he goes. Beto will walk the loaded dolly down the street onto the sidewalk and through the heart of Mazatlan.
I live in Columbia, Missouri and this is one of the many things in Mexico that you will not see in Columbia, Missouri.
