I don’t understand some people when it comes to what they demand. In the type of business that I am involved in, we provide whatever service the customer needs. We really take the time to learn all about them and assess how to satisfy those needs. Unfortunately, people feel that they don’t need to pay for the services and that they should be free. I see sales people get frustrated when they have to go the extra mile to satisfy the customer’s service needs.
I had a customer who decided to give us a call after he made his purchase. I was actually standing next to my associate and the customer when he was making his final decisions. We offered to have someone go to his house (for $50) and get all of his speakers and components hooked up to the TV. This gentleman said that he had no clue how to hook this stuff up. So for me, it was a no-brainer when it came to his needs. He didn’t want to pay $50 and he left.
The same gentleman called back about two hours later frustrated because he could not figure it out. Once again, I offered the service to hi, because it is hard sometimes to walk someone through a complete home theater set up over the phone. He didn’t want to pay for the service and I suggested that he call a technical support line that could help him. He refused that and told me he’d return all he bought if I didn’t help him.
Needless to say, I took the time to help him walk through the set up. I went the extra mile for the customer and he was very pleased with my service. He told me he would recommend me to all his friends and family. That made me feel good as an associate to know that I helped a customer and their needs. (Hopefully his friends and family will just pay for the service though.)Written by: Joel Little
