Resume Blunders

I recently wrote about a resume that stood out to me, for all the wrong reasons. Here’s another example that the devil’s in the details.
I received a resume from a lady who had several skills and experiences I consider applicable to the / secret shopping position open in our office. Her references looked good and she had held down several long term jobs, so I knew she was dependable. I scrolled up to the top to give her a call.
I began dialing her number and quickly hung up the phone. There were five numbers where the last four digits of her number should’ve been! Wow! What small thing that made a huge difference.
I wasn’t able to call her and schedule an interview. I imagined her sitting in her home wondering why none of her job prospects had given her a call back, all the while it is because she has a typo in her phone number.
This is just a reminder that the details and first impressions really do make all the difference. Can you imagine if you placed a ad in the newspaper and the price was wrong. Or what your self storage business paid for an ad in the phonebook and the phone number was wrong?
Unfortunately, this mistake did not give her a step in the right direction. Hopefully she realizes the mistake and is able to make a better impression next time.
