Renting on Sundays

Why is it that it seems that we get more Sunday callers needing self storage immediately, on that same day, than any other day of the week? I wonder if any research has ever been done on what day during the week more couples will break up, or by what day during the week a person renting an apartment who has been kicked out needs to be out by.  It seems Sunday is that day.  Most of the calls I get on Sundays from people needing the unit on Sunday usually need it urgently because of the two reasons I mentioned. 

Another type of caller who seems to need a storage unit that same Sunday they called is someone who just got into town having moved from another area- whether it be from another city or even state.  This type of urgent renter seems to get to his/her destination Sunday late afternoon or Sunday evening.  Quite a few of our self storage Clients are open for business on Sundays in the late afternoon or Sunday evening so things work out well.  However, there are a couple of facilities that are not open on Sundays.  I don’t know why that is.  I do understand that even facility managers need a day off or two.  Everyone who works is entitled to it (depending on # of hours).  However, when it comes to storage and the storage business, prospects needing storage is an ongoing, everyday process.  People do need storage even on Sundays.  I hate having to tell a caller who needs storage that same Sunday they called that unfortunately I cannot assist them because the office is closed. 

Some companies have devised an innovation.  The office may be closed but they do have a kiosk, which a person can utilize to rent in an emergency situation.  This can really save the revenues that are lost on Sundays and be of great service to people in emergency.  As technology advances there will be more and more creative solutions to grasp.

Perhaps someday science will offer an answer to such burning questions as “what is boned chicken?’ Until then the storage industry kiosk is a wonderful new tool to create sales increase.
