So, it’s my first week of training in the call center. The jitters have set in because I’ve always had some insecurity about talking, let alone selling self storage, over the phone. I’ve always spoken over the phone at other jobs, but I have never felt completely comfortable with it. I was actually reluctant about getting in on actual calls with the fear of sounding awkward or nervous. I knew that there was a phone script that pretty much outlines the sales technique, but still, the jitters. My fear was that the calls would not adhere to the script. Then, I would have to think fast to get it back on track. I do not exactly know why I didn’t think I would be able to handle it, but I did have a little trouble. My trainer even told me, “I can’t train you forever.” So I said ok, but let’s do it tomorrow. The next day rolls around and I am fine. The calls are going smoothly and I am doing better than expected. Just a few things that I needed to fix, but overall I was doing ok. I even got a credit card reservation. Hooray for me! The one on one training here is excellent and gives you the back up of a skilled professional guiding you every step of the way. So to anyone who is still in the training stages and scared about getting in on actual calls, just keep your cool! Your life will not end if you stumble over a word or two. It sounds very cliché, but it is very true: practice makes perfect.
