The job of a quality assurance manager also known as QA manager can be rewarding and stressful at the same time. Also known as quality control manager or quality manager, this position involves being responsible for the designing, development and implementation of specific quality management procedures and strategies. QA managers work in a wide range of industries like engineering, real estate, manufacturing, petrochemicals, construction, transport, food production and self storage.

    What Does The Job Involve

Generally, the role of a quality manager is defined by the kind of industry he is involved in. However, the basic responsibilities of quality managers remain the same across all industries. The main responsibility of a quality assurance manager involves ensuring a flawless process of production and marketing of products or services. The quality manager incorporates his knowledge and expertise to achieve defined goals.

The manager usually begins his job by recognizing and establishing his role and relationship with the other employees. Such an approach allows him to gain insight about the various processes in the company and the way they work. The quality manager can thus assess the maximum amount of work that can be carried out in a single shift while adhering to the highest quality standards.

Other responsibilities of this position include

    • A QA manager has to communicate client requirements to the sales and marketing departments and identify ways in which the company can meet them.
    • The quality manager has to inspect and test every phase of the production process to ensure the quality of products.
    • The manager has to review current policies and suggest plans to enhance the quality system.
    • Identifying areas for improvement and documenting these observations are also duties of a quality manager.
    • The manager has to ensure that the procedures of the organization conform to legislative requirements like health and safety, equal opportunity and financial rules.
    • The QA manager has to analyze business statistics and review the effectiveness of any changes that have been made.

The significance of this job is best illustrated in the software industry. While QA professionals are not directly responsible for creating the software sold by the company, they are fully responsible for software testing. The QA manager does not actually have hands-on role on testing the software. He will have a team of qualified QA testers and each of these testers will be assigned with a particular module of the software to test.

These QA testers will be adequately trained by the manager responsible for quality monitoring to test not just every single software function but also every possible combination of functions. Finally, the quality manager will document the test results and forward it to the programmers in case any changes have to be made.
