Did you know that it takes 3 times more the energy to put on a negative attitude opposed to a positive attitude? Storage can be very emotional, most of the time if you are putting your stuff in storage it’s not because you have so many wedding gifts you have no place to store them. Or because your landlord says you are such a good tenant I want to give you 3 months rent-free.

Most of the people I have come across are putting their stuff in self storage because they lost a job and can’t pay rent, so they are moving in with the mother in law. Divorce, street people and domestic violence are just some of the cases I have worked with in the self storage industry.  So when my phone rings in the PhoneSmart Call Center for Self Storage I put on a smile and answer the phone with “Hi this is Liz, how can I help you today”. Sometimes I feel like people just want someone to listen, so I listen and help them reserve a storage unit. I remember a lady who was in a shelter and going through a nasty divorce. I remember saying to her “time, it takes time to heal and this too shall pass and you will find strength from within. Do you think she would have opened up to me if I had a frown on my face and a negative attitude? I don’t think so.
