Price Matching

Every once in a while there are those ‘special’ calls that, at times, become humorous. In self storage, we get all kinds of crazy calls. Some of the funniest calls are when people try to negotiate with you even after you tell them you’re not the manager and they are the only ones able to offer price breaks. Usually I like to listen to their sales pitch so I’m not rude and I write it in the notes to the manager. When people call us and want deals we can only offer them what is in our price screen. I’m new to the storage business so I’m still trying to perfect my sales techniques but it would be cool if there was more leeway on negotiation, like if there were competitor price matching and we can go ahead and log potential customers in at the competition’s price and reserve the unit. This would probably result in a sales increase. What we would need is someone who could consistently secret shop the competition so when a customer said that they were quoted a lower price than ours, we would have up-to-date information and verification of the price match. This way we could stay competitive and always have the best prices.
