  • Avoid The Pitfalls Of Self Storage
By admin on March 11, 2010 | No Comments Comments

If you are not careful, the self storage industry can be a tricky, dangerous place. Indeed, you are going to be storing all of your belongings, most likely, which means that you are placing them at potential risk. If you rent a unit that is not going to be able to take care of your belongings as you need it to, then you may very well find yourself suffering thousands of dollars in damages. Fortunately, though, there are tons of ways for you to make sure that your self storage unit is not going to harm your belongings significantly. So long as you are ready and willing to shop around safely, and give yourself all of the time that you are going to need to really scope out your local facilities, then you are never going to end up renting a unit that is not going to work out well for you. Keep some of this advice in mind as you are calling around for your units, and you are destined to find something that is going to work out very well for you in the end.

As you are shopping around for a unit, never forget that you are going to have to set up site tours with the sites that you are considering. The last thing that you are going to want to do, here, is commit yourself to a lease at a property that you have never even seen. Sure, this may sound like an entirely obvious point, but you would be surprised to find out how many people are this reckless when they rent their self storage units. As a smart consumer, though, you can make sure that you are booking yourself for all of the site tours that you are going to need in order to make a responsible decision. When you are calling around to your local properties, simply be sure that you are asking them if they offer site tours. If they do not, then you can scratch them off of your list right away. If they do, simply set up a quick appointment for a time that works out well for you.

Moving on, here, you are going to want to keep your eyes open to certain things as you are conducting your site tours. As you would expect, you are going to want to be sure that the sites that you are considering are nice and clean before you commit yourself to a lease. As you are touring your potential units, be sure that you keep your eyes open for things that might end up harming your belongings. Be sure that your unit is going to stay nice and dry, and that it does not have any potentially harmful curvature in the floor. Curvature, here, can lead water to collect, ruining your belongings. Of course, you are going to have to be sure that you are keeping your eyes open for things like oil stains, which may very well end up ruining your fabrics and your furniture. If you can, be sure that you get a report of the facility from the local fire department, as you are going to want to be sure that the property does not have an extensive history of fires or theft.

If you keep all of these simple things in mind as you are shopping around, then you are going to be able to find a self storage unit that will work out perfectly for your needs. It is all about letting your common sense guide you towards a unit that is not going to place you at risk, reader.

  • An Inspirational Guide To Organize Your Clutter
By admin on January 8, 2010 | No Comments Comments

Do you have a room in your house that puts you to shame when you think of having to let a guest stay over or friend pop by? It’s the extra room or corner that seems to have a gravitational hold on all the junk, outdated collectibles, photo albums, spare parts and files.

No matter how many times you have cleared out and organized this room or space, it ends up right back into a cluttered pile that makes you want to run and hide.

Take this guide to organizing your clutter as your last ditch effort and give it one more shot. We promise you won’t be disappointed with the end result.

First of all, resist your urge to start organizing your room after a long day of work or late at night. While you may have the motivation and desire to start, if you have been working all day long or it is already late in the evening, you will tire from the task. And giving up mid-cleanup can leave you more frustrated and overwhelmed.

So, plan ahead and set aside a day for organizing your room. If your family members will be helping, let them know ahead of time as well so you don’t spring it on them at the last minute.

Before organizing day, it’s a good idea to shop around your local self storage facilities and get a few price quotes. If you rent a small space to put the items you want to keep, but don’t need taking up the square footage in you home, then sorting through your piles of clutter and turning them into organized treasures will be a smooth process.

When you rent your storage unit ahead of time, the office will also offer boxes, bubble wrap and packing tape for sale. It is typically cheap and definitely convenient to pick all the items you’ll need to organize right at the storage facility.

When the time comes to get to cleaning, be prepared to throw broken or unwanted items away.

To begin, sort items into piles of what you want to keep in your home, what you want to put into your storage unit, what items you want to sell, the things you want to donate and go ahead and throw the trash right into a trash bag.

If you have prepared for the day and already picked up packing supplies from the storage unit, then after you have sorted items into piles, begin packing away the items you want to move to storage. Keep in mind that when you place the items in storage, you will want to take advantage of all the vertical space in the unit.

So pack fragile items in a box and clearly mark fragile so that you can make sure to take extra care when moving the box and keep it at the top of any stacks when it goes to the storage unit. Likewise, it’s a good idea to label the outside of the box with a general idea of its contents so you can quickly find it again.

All the items that you’ve decided to keep in your home should be boxed or placed in plastic totes in much the same way. Make sure to label items and wrap and label any fragile items.

If you are organizing your home office, using a filing cabinet and labeling system will also help you keep paperwork off your desk. And it’s quick and easy for you to buy a basket or box to place on top of your desk to throw the mail or bills into.

Hopefully, this has refreshed you and sparked your readiness to clean out the place in your home where clutter keeps growing.
