When dealing with customers in the self storage business or any sales industry, you have to find and take advantage of any opportunity that you can. By that I don’t want you to think of the “opportunist” commonly thought of as a cunning, conniving, tricky sales person. By this I mean that any opportunity to ask a question, ask it or to give a customer more information, give it.
Don’t wait or assume that the customer will specifically ask for the information. Take advantage of the opportunity to educate them. You don’t want to lose any opportunity that is open for you to proceed with a sale.
If a prospect shows concern, use that opportunity to explain why it would work to their advantage. Figure out with them if the product will work to their advantage. You first have to be an opportunist. Keep your eyes and ears open for an opportunity that benefits both of you. If you don’t, you’ll have prospects running to the next company to see if they will be interested in being an opportunist. You have to ask questions, determine needs and explain what your company can do for them. You don’t have to be an underhanded sales person to watch your sales increase. Take the opportunity to slowly work with each prospect to find what’s best for their needs.
