When one goes on a mystery shop he has to observe things very keenly. Here is a list of things that an agent has to watch out for, when he goes on an assignment to a mini storage , apartment , self storage or retail outlet job.

• Before visiting the outlet he should first discuss the things that he has to actively and attentively observe during his assignment. There will be a lot of factors to attract the attention of an agent in a retail outlet, but an agent should pay special attention to all those factors that he is asked to by his employers and get accurate information about them.

• The agent should see to it that he does not reveal his identity or the purpose of his visit to the staff or the consumers of the retail outlet. He makes his visit look as casual and inconspicuous as possible.

• While writing a mystery shop report the agent should mention his name and contact details very clearly in the reports so that his employers can discuss with him on the information provided by him whenever required. One of the first things that are noticeable about a retail outlet is the open sign that indicates the status of the outlet. The agent should observe if the sign is placed conspicuously. He should be able to state the distance from the outlet from which he could notice the sign and read its contents.

• The external premises of the retail outlet should be maintained in a top class condition as this is a very important element for attracting consumers. Those outlets that are not well maintained look uninviting and the consumers do not visit such outlets.

• The demeanor of the consumer relationships executives should be carefully noted by the mystery shop agent. The executives should present themselves cordially to their visitors. The time taken by them to attend their visitors and they way they present their wares are also to be observed. Any sales skills used successfully should also be taken a note of. On the whole the atmosphere should be warm and welcoming.

• The agent should walk around the shop and see if he is able to reach each and every section of the outlet easily. He should check whether the directions given are very clear. The outlets should ideally be well organized logically and should be very spacious. The items should be neatly maintained and displayed in an attractive manner. The elevators should be in good working condition.

• While on a mystery shop assignment one should observe if the shelves are adequately stocked. Shelves with very less items do not give a very good impression. All the items should have clearly written price tags on them. The agents should observe if the staff is promptly coming over to assist the visitors in buying products. The employees of the outlet should have the latest knowledge about the products available in their stores and they should be able to state the benefits of their products and how they are different from competing products available in the market. Consumers are attracted to only those products that are unique and worth their money.

• After selecting an item, on a mystery shop assignment one should observe if the procedure of making bills and accepting payments is error free. The bills should be verified for accuracy.
