“Meeting” Quality Standards

Every Thursday, I get the pleasure of enjoying a 7am meeting with my fellow managers at work. We talk about sales goals, strategies and ways to improve the customer experience in our store. Sometimes there is the occasional disagreement and sometimes there is the occasional agreement. Ultimately, whatever we talked about, the GM (general manager or store manager) has the final say. Today it was a little different.
Today, before going over the goals and/or strategies, we actually had an open forum. We (about nine of us) decided to go around the horn and talk about any problems with the way we currently do business. Mostly, it was a talk about us not helping one another.
The funny thing about businesses such as retail stores and self storage, think that everything runs smoothly if people do not agree on issues. Sometimes it is a great idea for management staffs to sit and talk about ways to improve the relationship between managers. Each manager has to be behind one another and to help each other especially when some things are unclear on how to resolve. There might be some yelling, finger pointing, and sometimes some hurt feelings. After all the conversation, hopefully, there is some humility, teachings and resolutions. At the end of the meeting, we felt better getting all our concerns off our chest and walked to the floor ready to influence our business as a team. This is a good sales technique to see a sales increase by getting your team on the same page.
