We are still in the clutches of winter weather and a few days ago I was working at my parents restaurant in downtown Columbia, MO. A lady came in that I knew and her eyes were wide open and she said, “It’s snowing again!” I try to keep up with the weather but was not aware that it was supposed to snow. To make a long story short(er), I went out to start my car and I have a keyless entry pad on the outside to gain entry. I have used it hundreds of times and really love the feature. Well when I went to leave I completely blanked out of the entry number. It’s freezing cold, snowy and I am standing there next to my running car! I tried for about 30 minutes to get in and couldn’t, so I call AAA. The lady was very nice and got all my information and then said it would be an 85 minute wait but would put a priority on the call since the car was running. After waiting about 10 minutes my phone rang and the lady said the driver was on his way. I went outside and there he was yahoo. It took him all of about 30 seconds to get into the vehicle and he said that he was on his way to a tow job and thought he would stop by my car on the way and help me. I slipped him $5 and got into my toasty warm, defrosted car.

What are you doing in your day to day business to expedite your customer’s needs? Start the day with a plan of attack, and allow time for those unexpected moments that a customer might need you. Think of every item that you get accomplished that much closer to the end of the work day and great customer service. Self storage is not just standing behind a counter or answering the phone, it takes people skills, common sense and a great attitude.
