Well, we are almost four months into 2008. In property management, it is safe to stay that you have already had some key learnings on what you see so far in your business. Have we adjusted our businesses to see success this year? Maybe, we have maybe we have not. It is never too late to make a difference that will make a big impact in your business. In property management, you have a lot on your plate in terms of everyday efficiency of your business, but remember the overall goal in property management is to make a profit.
In this year so far, you have surely found out that you cannot do everything yourself, if you did not already know that. It might be hard to admit, even though you are a very together person, but you have a lot on your plate. A big difference that you can make this year in is getting your people to take some pride in the business. You can go out there everyday, all day and coach your people around good business decisions and showing them the numbers. How much of an impact do you think it would make if all of your associates were talking about the same thing to all of their peers?
In property management, you will always have someone on your team that might rock the boat and think that they deserve more than they are currently paid. As a property owner, it is good to entertain the idea and listen to their point. They might point out that you pay other associates a certain amount of money and the store makes a great profit off their hard work. Based of those reasons, they think they might deserve a raise. In property management, how great would it be if you did not have to field that question or even have to put a lot of thought to it. What if one of their peers stated that they would get more money if he produced more? What if they could explain to your associate, their peer, if you have less people in the building producing at high levels, then everyone receives raises because we do not need to pay more people. But currently with a lot of people on the property producing at low levels, how can we expect raises? Of course, in property management, you will have to explain to your associates sometimes the financials around what you do in property management and why you do it. For that associate wanting a raise, you can show them where the money actually goes, if you have access to such a report, and it could be eye opening. That associate will have a light turned on in their head and see that they are the main reason and the main driving force of your business.
In , it would feel awesome if all your associates understood what you did and had a conversation with their peers around it. They can finally understand that every customer interaction made the difference in the bottom line of the company. Every interaction counted towards their year-end bonus. Every time they decided to take a day off at work and not take care of their customers, could cost them dearly in the long run. In property management, if your to-do list could shrink down a little and if everyone understood what part of the big picture they play and how they influence the business, your job will be a lot easier.
