Key West Storage Units Keep Away Old, Mold and Cold

Key West storage units have some very specific conditions which must be addressed. Florida has the obvious moisture issues, but also temperature and air pressure issues, at times, which are very unique to that section of the country. Often uninformed folk will begin packing and storing without giving any thought to the location and conditions of the facility. Most every time if a facility has climate control as a feature, there is at least air conditioning. Making sure the air conditioner works before moving anything is always a good idea, especially at cheaper facilities. Apart from the basic air conditioner, some facilities may also have a moisture regulator. This may either be a humidifier, which is rarely necessary in Florida, or a device that keeps the room dry. This is almost necessary if you are storing massive amounts of fabric or paper. However, there are ways to control mold and moisture if there is no humidifier, which will be discussed later.

Some of the more expensive Key West storage units will have pressurized rooms. This is luxurious and very beneficial for customers who are storing bottles or containers. Key West has more facilities like this than most other cities because of the dynamic pressure differences during storms in Florida. This can cause any sealed container to expand or contract, unless the room is pressurized, which allows any sealed contents to rest undisturbed.

However, as previously mentioned there are ways to fortify boxes or bags against the forces of the climate. If the facility does not have air conditioning, books or massive amounts of paper can be dangerous to store. If this must be done, make sure there is some space between the boxes and, if possible, the contents within. This allows the room to breathe as much as possible so hot air does not get concentrated in a certain area, which may result in combustion otherwise. If the facility does not have moisture control, it is essential to take the next steps, especially in Key West storage units . Any fabric should be wrapped to guard against moisture accumulation. Clothes should be tied in trash bags and couches or chairs with fabric should be covered by a plastic guard with no openings. If possible, it is also a very wise idea to wrap books or paper in plastic. If there is no pressurization control in the facility, and most do not have it, the best thing to do is to put any sealed container, such as soup or shampoo, into a zip lock bag, in case it explodes. It would also be wise to put any such containers in a separate box apart from other belongings.

Apart from these tips, the best thing you can use to guard against climate issues is basic common sense. Make sure you know what you are storing to guard against any potential problems, and remember that Key West storage units have unique issues to consider.
