Keeping In Touch

  • The way we shop has changed.  There was a time that if you needed information about a product you went into the store and asked for help.  It worked well but it was very annoying to leave your home or office, drive or walk to a store and then stand by and cool your heels while the clerk talked with someone else who merely picked up the phone and called.  Shoppers, bombarded with silly jingles about letting their finger do the walking and faced with rising costs of transportation were staring to make productive use of their telephone.  Today, the Internet has caused sweeping changes in the way people shop.  You can get bids and purchase almost anything online from the convenience of you desk This creates a new challenge for local merchants in many retail products.  To make up the difference any local retailer must beef up their customer service.

This is true of everything including self storage.  When we send a hot lead to a store it can be so much more effective if the store personnel call that customer as soon as possible Even a confirmed reservation deserves a follow up call from the local store.  This will cement the relationship between prospective tenant and store management and make the prospect feel valued.  It could mean the difference between that prospect renting with that store or recommending the store to friends or relatives.

The store manager can use the opportunity of the follow up call to sell extra services and offer incentives that are available in addition to what the call center could offer.

An extra follow up with a hot lead can turn into a positive decision if they were on the fence about which facility to choose.  Keep a list and touch base with the callers who did not rent with you today.  This could bring a sales increase for your store.
