How To Catch More Rentals

It seems lately that I have received more than my share of self storage callers who need a storage unit and wouldn’t mind renting now in order to have the unit available for when they need it.  However, they are out of the area and cannot get into the storage facility to rent the unit within the allotted reservation time. 

What do you do?  You certainly do not want to lose a potential renter but you also cannot reserve the unit as you know that they will not be in within the reservation time frame.  Another type of call similar to this is the renter who is willing to pay you for the self storage unit over the phone so they can ensure that they will have the storage unit for when they need it, but they do not want to start paying until the last possible hold time on the unit.  

If you cannot hold the self storage unit for the caller until they are able to get to the store, there is only one possible solution.  Ask them if there is someone else in the area that can come to the store and rent the storage unit for them.  They can then get their unit switched into their name when they are able to come into the store.  You may be surprised to catch those few extra rentals.
