How To Become A Secret Shopper
-
You have decided to take the plunge and make some extra money. You have looked at several options and have decided you would like to become a secret shopper. The company you think you would like to work for you found online. Now you need to fill out the simple application. Wrong! The applications are not always simple and can be confusing to some.
The application will likely be two different parts. One section will include your personal information and work history while the other includes your job description that might include a test. Many companies are now requiring the basic skills tests, integrity and an ethics test, and a reading comprehension test. Your job as a secret shopper requires you to read and understand information from the employer. You will need to provide an assessment of your experience of the shop assignment. This will require excellent communication skills including grammar, spelling and report writing.
Within the application, there will be information on remaining anonymous while performing the job. You will be acting like a true shopper to get an accurate picture of the business you are visiting. It is very important that the employees and management do not suspect you are a secret shopper, since they will change their normal behavior for a better score. Do not carry your paperwork for the assignment into the store to arouse suspicion. A lot of the job requires observing and remembering what took place so you can write it in your report.
You are expected to do the assignment on the required date and times. All paperwork including questionnaires and the report should be returned quickly. Having problems completing assignments on time will be cause for the company to terminate your position or at the very least, not receive any new assignments. Contact your employer if there is any problem with an assignment. Remember, you should treat this job the same as a normal job.
Do not leave any question unanswered and no blank spaces. Everything needs a response and unclear answers might result in not being paid for the job.
You can work for more than one company. Most companies realize they are not able to provide you with constant work. Do not share information about one company to others and never share forms for reports, your completed evaluations or anything else are considered confidential with another company. Professionalism is necessary as well as being discreet.
Keep your contact information up to date always. When you move or change a phone number, promptly notify your employer. This allows them to contact you with new assignments and process your reports faster for payment.
Know the procedure for processing payments, which is usually done on a monthly basis. Required information must be complete and returned by the deadline date before payments can be made.
A secret shopper is not allowed to perform a job at a business where family, friends or known employees work. The minimum age for any position is at least eighteen years of age.
Read all the fine print on your application and your job assignments. Make sure you understand and have the confidence to meet the expectations of the company. If you do not, ask questions until you do understand, or if you feel you cannot do the assignment let the company know quickly. Even if you work many shops, you will not get rich as a secret shopper.
