I am one of the Spanish speaking representatives at PhoneSmart the self storage call center and I have noticed something recently. Lately it seems that a lot of the Spanish speaking customers calling for storage units are not sure themselves what language they want to speak. Many Spanish speaking customers call now and speak to me in English or start speaking Spanish and end up speaking English.
Now it makes me wonder what would be best for them. In my opinion a lot of things are very often taken for granted when it comes to good customer service and one of them is the convenience of having someone speak to you in a preferred or native language. It takes, I imagine, a lot of extra resources for a company to provide this extra benefit, but when a Spanish speaker calls it seems they only do this because they can. If you ask me what’s best for anyone in any place or any outlet of customer service or really any aspect of people relations is this simple saying “when in Rome do as the Romans do,’ so many times its so much simpler to get right to the point the easier and fastest way possible.
