Flirting With Property Management

Recently I had a rep write a self storage blog on, “Do opposites attract?”  She wanted my input on this so I am continuing the discussion with this property management blog.  She did a survey of the call center staff about which each felt they got the most reservations from, the same sex or the opposite sex.  I was one of those in the survey.  She found that is seems to be more women reserving and calling about self storage, regardless of the sex of the rep.  However, I do think that men are more likely to give the credit card and make the reservation if they are flirting with the rep.  It seems more men do this over the phone than women.

I asked a couple of our male reps and they tell me that sometimes they have been flirted with or were told that they had a nice voice. But I had to ask if they ever got any lunch offers or marriage proposals and they said, “no!”

In my experience, I have had invitations to lunch and more than one proposal and I will not tell you about the “900” call.  So, it does seem men are dogs (oops, I mean flirtatious) so it makes them more apt to reserve or give their credit card over the phone.

I also do payroll and can see everyone’s commission sheets so I can see that the majority of the commission come from females.  Is this because opposites attract because more women do the calling?  We have women calling for the children or other relatives.  After you tell them what we have then they say, “I have to talk to my husband”.  Sometimes I want to say, “Well, have him call” but in customer service you can’t always say what you want to.  Also, my husband has me call the auto parts store for information about some “thingy” He knows a lot more about the “thingy” than I do but still has me to call.
I think that it is just the norm for the women to do the calling

So maybe opposites do attract and we will always have those flirters, but I think in the self storage industry and property management it will just be the women doing most of the calling.
