Every Generation tells their children how things were “different” when they were younger.
My grandparents talked about the lack of good roads and reliable cars when they were young.  Therefore families lived close to each other, often sharing Sunday dinners and Birthdays with one another.
My parents told us that they had no television.  Children played with each other outside, and families gathered around the radio to listen to their favorite programs.
How much things have changed since I was a kid was really apparent to me the other day when I was sitting at a stoplight.  There were four young women in another car, and each one of them was talking on a cellphone.  These ladies were within arm’s reach of one another, yet they weren’t even speaking to each other!

This got me to thinking…how else have things changed since I was ‘young’…

Used to be…we went into the bank and spoke to the teller to get some cash.
Nowadays…we drive up to an ATM machine and enter a PIN number to get some money.

Used to be…we would go to our travel agent to plan our vacation.
Nowadays…we Surf the ‘Net to find the best airfare.

Used to be… we went into the restaurant and gave our hamburger order to the kid behind the counter.
Nowadays…we drive up to a box and shout our order into it.

Used to be…we handed our postman a letter to mail the latest gossip to our old college roommate.
Nowadays…we text message the latest gossip to our old college roommate.

Self storage facilities have web sites with virtual tours, price lists and charts to help decide on unit size.

When a potential renter comes into your self storage office, give them your full attention.  Ignore the UPS man and let the phone ring over to PhoneSmart.  Getting a chance to make a great impression face-to-face with a prospect is a rarity nowadays! In this age of micro chip innovation keeping the personal touch can be a wonderful sales technique and can lead to a sales increase.
