If you are dreading your upcoming self storage situation, then you are going to want to be sure that you are setting a solid game plan for yourself from the very start.  What I am saying, here, is that you are going to want to be sure that you are not making your self storage situation any more complicated than it has to be.  By doing some prep work, by calling around ahead of time, and by making sure that you consolidate your chores, you are going to be able to make sure that you are not falling behind in the vast, complicated game that is self storage.

The first thing that you are going to want to do, here, is make sure that you are not calling around without a solid idea of what you are going to need.  Here, you are going to want to be sure that you are sizing up your belongings before you even begin to place your first round of shopping calls.  To do this, simply get a feel for what your large items are going to be.  Figure out roughly how much floor space your larger items are going to require, and be sure to jot this down.  It may be helpful to keep track of precisely what these larger items are, as your potential property mangers are going to want to be sure that they fully understand what you are getting yourself into.  Do not become too impatient with your property manager when they begin to ask you detailed questions, as they are only trying to make sure that you do not end up renting a unit that is either too big or too small for your belongings.  They understand that you do not want to waste your money, and they are going to do everything within their power to help you avoid it.

Moving on, here, you are going to want to be sure that you are calling your local self storage facilities well ahead of time.  The very worst thing that you can do, here, is wait until the very last minute to start calling around.  When you wait until the very last minute, you virtually guarantee that you are going to be stressed out as you are calling around.  Of course, being stressed out is not going to help you make responsible decisions.  By calling around ahead of time, you are going to be able to convince yourself that there is nothing to fear, and that you are going to be able to find the right unit in due time.  Of course, when you are calling around ahead of time, you are going to be able to reserve a unit ahead of time as well, meaning that you are not going to have to worry about a facility running out of the unit that you are going to need at the very last minute.
