Developing A Quality Assurance Plan
-
Quality assurance plan is one of the most important aspects in the successful implementation of any quality system within the organization. Hence, it is very essential that this plan be chalked out properly. The development of quality plan begins with the formation of a team that will work on developing it. A number of key professionals from various departments work along with the quality monitoring department in order to develop this plan.
The first step is to decide the objective of the project for which the project quality control plan is being chalked out. This includes the results of the projects that are anticipated, the quality goals to be achieved while executing the project and other goals and objectives that are specific to the nature of the project or the organization. All plans for assuring quality should be developed in such a way so that all the legal and other regulatory requirements are met.
The second step is to determine all the processes required for accomplishing the project successfully. There are various methods, techniques, and tools used by the team to anticipate the various problems that can occur during the project which can affect its performance. The previous experience also aids the professionals in identifying the problems that can possibly occur.
The third step involves planning the quality control activities in order to assure the good quality of the deliverables. This step encompasses planning for a wide range of activities. The hould clearly explain all the kinds of inspections and testing that should be conducted at the various stages of the project. The frequency of these inspections and testing and when they should be performed is also stated in the plan. The detailed timetable for all audits i.e. internal and external audits should be prepared. The standards that should be followed for the various quality control activities are also given in this plan. The plan should include the minutest details like how to select samples, what should be the sample size and which actions should be taken depending on the results of the inspections, testing and audits. The personnel and teams who will be responsible for the different quality planning and quality control activities are decided and this too is included in the plan.
The next step is to plan for the resources required in successfully implementing the quality assurance plan . The resource requirement should include any new test equipment required to conduct some tests as per customer requirements or to help in reducing the testing time or to reduce the manpower efforts. The human resources required should also be planned. This is an important step since any plan cannot be successfully implemented without the availability of adequate resources.
Once the quality control plan has been developed, it is necessary to circulate it to the management and the other concerned personals for review. After receiving the feedback, the team members should discuss the amendments to be made to the plan, if any. After discussions, the final decision is taken. The final plan is thus developed after incorporating the decided changes. Before releasing this plan, it is necessary to take the approval of the top management. It is then published and released to all the concerned people like key personnel, quality monitoring and quality control department, customers etc. It is the responsibility of the head of quality department to check that the qualify assurance plan is followed by the organization.
