Curb Appeal

The term property management encompasses a variety of things. But one responsibility that is extremely important is curb appeal. When people go the extra mile to make a place look good, it usually means they really care!

A good example of property management was our experience this summer as we were driving through the Northern Plain States. One night we chose a motel simply because of name recognition. It was a national chain that was known to be kid-friendly. It looked okay, and our experience was just that, okay. The staff was rather indifferent, and the food was so-so.

The next night we decided on a different approach. We found a quaint little motel that was obviously built during the motel boom of the 1950’s. Although it was obviously older, it was very cute and well-maintained. The bushes and lawn were nicely trimmed, the buildings were freshly painted, and there were baskets of beautiful flowers outside of each unit.

We were so glad we stopped! Not only was the property well maintained, but also everyone was very kind and helpful. The desk clerk let us know where could get some dinner and buy some groceries. (Most of this small town shut down at 8pm) She even let us use the pool as late as we wanted as long as we were respectful to other tenants. The next morning along with the basic continental breakfast, we were fed biscuits and gravy, hashbrowns, and egg casserole. The owner walked around during the meal introducing himself to everyone and giving us some great ideas for touristy things to do and places to sightsee. It was a great experience!

Simply going the extra mile to make your self storage or automobile storage property look clean and well cared for can go a long way. And usually, when the curb appeal is great, so is the experience! And if you are ever in Lutz, South Dakota, be sure to stop at that cute little place along the highway!
