Cross selling is a big deal in sales and customer service. You see it all the time especially with cell phone companies. You can not only buy your cell phone, but you also get the charger, manual, and sometimes the ear piece. Most of the time cell phone distributors will try to sell you the ear piece that goes with the phone separately. They also try to get you to buy the car charger, face plates, or any other accessories that will go with your cell phone.
I have just started working for order processing for a company that sells shooting, reloading, and gunsmithing supplies. Cross selling is a big deal for that company. I cross sell a lot of products for the company on a daily basis. I also believe that you have tons of opportunities to cross sell in industry. In self storage, there are many that the customer can use. I work in a reservation center so I can’t directly sell them a truck and a lock. What I can do is mention that we do rent trucks or that we have locks at the store that they can purchase for their convenience. This would be a good way to generate more revenue for the facility.
