Credit is very important and usually means the difference between spending $300 a month for your car or $500 a month. People do not just give out their credit card numbers over the phone without thinking how it will affect them. But maybe if someone showed them why giving out their credit card could ensure a space for them and they don’t have to rush down to the site to rent the space.
I don’t know how many calls I evaluate that I just shake my head in unbelief at the nerve of some people. A caller would ask for and the storage rep would tell them the price on a space and then ask for the caller’s credit card. Let me give you an example of a call I evaluated recently;
Rep: “XYZ storage.”
Customer: “Uh, yes. I was wondering if I could get a price on a 10×20 storage please.”
Rep: “Yeah, it’s $300 a month with tax and a $20 administration fee. Do you want to reserve that with a credit card?”
Customer: “No, but thank you.”That was the whole conversation. So why would a caller just had over their credit card and say sign me up? As reps, they have to do more than just give out prices and hope the caller decides to give up their precious credit card. They have to deliver stellar customer service and show the caller something that they won’t see or hear anywhere else. That is what will open up the caller’s wallet.
