The secret shopping evaluator is aware that this technique is very true with selling self storage. When a customer calls to inquire about it, the telephone rep only has a few minutes to sell the facility and help the customer realize that renting a unit at this particular location is exactly what they are looking for. The best way to accomplish this task is with the Five Agreements.

All secret shopping evaluators know that location is the number one reason people choose a self storage facility, so this is the First Agreement that the sales rep needs to get. Next the telephone rep wants to determine what size of a unit the caller will need. Since the customer is choosing the size, they are obviously in agreement.

For the Third Agreement, the secret shopping evaluator wants to hear the sales rep get the caller to agree to a timeframe as to when the unit will be needed. This can be used to the advantage of the salesperson in many different ways. If the caller says they will need the self storage unit in a week, then the phone rep will emphasize that a unit needs to be reserved now to insure that it will be available in seven days. If the caller says they will need it in a month, then the salesperson can recommend the unit be rented now so the customer can take advantage of the current special, and start moving into the self storage unit at a leisurely pace. 

The Fourth Agreement is about the importance of all of the security and amenities that this location provides. By getting the caller to agree that video cameras and monthly pest control and an onsite management team are essential features, the phone rep is also putting into the back of the mind of the customer that maybe the competitors do not offer these things.

And of course the Fifth Agreement is the price. By first going over the other four agreements, the salesperson is letting the caller know what all they are getting included with their rental rate. If the phone rep cannot get this fifth agreement, if the customer thinks the price is too high, then all a good salesperson has to do is to go back over the other four agreements and see what the problem is.
 
The salesperson should remind the caller and reemphasize the first four agreements. We are a convenient location for you, correct? And you will need our last available 10×10 unit this Saturday? Other property management companies are on the lookout for new technology to come their way. They may not go out of their way to research any new ideas or new products or services that they can take advantage of. But if something happens to come across their desk or email that catches their eye, then they may look into the project a little deeper with some level interest. Property management companies differ in size and what they look for when it comes to their business. What interests one may not interest another. Where their property management companies are located will make a difference. How many storage facilities they have, will make a difference. The type of customers that they strive to attract and their future goals will also depend on what route to take.

Then you have the property management companies that constantly try to research ways to be a cut above the rest. They want to know how they can save money yet earn more profits on their bottom line as the end results. Property management companies that are willing to go out and explore will be the type of business that prospers the most. And if they have done any sort of research they probably already came across the possibility of fully automated parking and storage retrieval. 

This technology would be great for property management companies that are in highly expensive areas such as bigger cities such as places like New York, Chicago and Florida. When the cost of square footage is so much more expensive, you have another option. And that would be to have several floors so you can utilize the space more effectively.

The same cities and states in which you would expect the cost of living to be much higher are the same locations that would prefer to use and purchase less property but still maximize the amount of storage units that can be rented out. Property management companies that are in smaller towns and cities probably would not need to worry about that as the land is not as expensive so they could get away with single floor property management companies that offer your typical parking spaces.

So, if you want to keep up with the times you should definitely be in the know about what is going on in the storage business and do your research. Even if you are not planning on making any type of adjustments within your property management companies, at least you will know what other companies are doing and offering. It may be something that sparks an interest. And as they say knowledge is power. Being informed about the industry that you are in is always a plus. So do not be afraid to get on the web and browse a little when you have a chance. Times are a changing. And you should at least be in the know.

What are so funny about the people who shop for self storage? There are call centers for self storage facilities, they answer calls for storage companies all over the United States. They will take calls and the customer will want prices for storage. Until some companies started taking calls for different self storage sites one would have never thought there would be choices in storage. So when those customers are shopping for storage they want the facility that they are calling for to sound the best. Call centers will mention the storage securities. For instance, the property has video cameras, the property is well lit and fenced, and there is a gate where only the tenants would have access to get in and out. So feel secure while you are shopping around for storage. Make sure the other facilities or companies have the same security so that way you can really compare prices.  Another crazy thing is how many people that call are shopping for someone else. Some people say they have relative moving to the area that will need storage when they get in town. Or a mom will call while her daughter is at school. Even vise versa, the daughter is shopping for her mom while she is at work. Even these callers want to know about the facility and try to reserve the units so they will have one when they get in town or when they need one.

Shopping nowadays is done so differently there is thing called mystery shopping.
Mystery shopping is when you pretend you need some service and you see how much it cost. No matter if it is for storage or renting an apartment. Mystery shopping callers pretend that they want what you have. Mystery shopping calls are then evaluated to see how well the rep did. People hire mystery shopping companies to see if their employee was pleasant to talk to, how well the employee knows his or her service or product. The mystery shopping company then sends a report about the employee back to the owner.

So you can see we are just not shopping with the girls, we are shopping for gas, phone service, and cable. We might just be mystery shopping. Mystery shopping is a great service for businesses looking to improve their customer service skills.

Many companies use the secret shopping program in order to improve their level of customer service. Unfortunately, there are people within those companies who do not believe secret shopping is a good use of company resources. They believe that they know who to sell and how to take care of the customers. They do not even try to learn or take feedback from the secret shopping evaluation. It is unbelievable the level people go to so they will not have to do something they do not want to do.

If a manager at a self storage facility absolutely refused to learn anything from a secret shopping agent, what is the value of that employee? Or of any employee who outright refuses to participate or cooperate? What if the manager, when the secret shopping agent revealed himself or herself as a secret shopper, started getting angry and frustrated? A professional secret shopping agent would still attempt to go over the call with the manager. However, some managers go on to tell the secret shopping agent about their years of sales experience or that they dp not need anyone to coach them on how to sell. In some extreme cases, employees being shopped will become enraged and say how much of a waste of time the call was or even how stupid secret shopping is.

Such extreme behavior is few and far between in the secret shopping industry, but when it does occur it can be a shocking experience for the secret shopping agent. The best way to handle these cases is to end the secret shop or training and the secret shopping agent can give it to their boss so that the client can see the results immediately.

As stated before, you have to have people on your team who care about how the company is growing. With people on your team in the example above, you can not be sure your company goals are being met or that customers are being treated respectably, but they could be doing a great job. On the other hand, how much more could you gain if you had someone who was able to take feedback and criticism? Having someone on your team who is not willing to learn or to help the company get to where they need to be is a risk that some self storage business owners do not take.

Self storage is one of many industries that utilize the benefits of hiring a secret shopping company to help them better their employees. One of these experienced secret shopping evaluators recently noted some of the things she often hears, but can definitely be tweaked. These are a few examples of some of her biggest pet peeves.

The secret shopping evaluator just grits her teeth when she hears a self storage representative simply answer the phone, Hello. The rep does not give their name or even the name of their company. The secret shopping evaluator knows that a proper greeting is of the utmost importance, since it completely sets the tone for the rest of the call. The secret shopping evaluator would advise the manager of this particular employee to professionally answer the phone, Hello.  My name is –.  Thank you for calling XYZ Self Storage. This short phrase lets the customer know that they have dialed the correct number, with whom they have the pleasure of speaking, and it brands the name of the self storage facility.

The secret shopping evaluator also cringes when she hears a phone rep say, Can you give the telephone number you are at, in case we get disconnected? Customers know this is nothing but a lame excuse to get their personal information. If a self storage consultant wants the phone number, they need to just ask for it outright.

Then there is the example of when the secret shopping evaluator hears a customer ask, do you have any 10×20 units? And the sales agent replies No, and is ready to disconnect the call. The secret shopping evaluator knows that just saying, No, is simply not an option! Even if the 10×20 spaces are currently unavailable the sales rep needs to let the customer know what their options are. Maybe the 10×15 has a ten foot ceiling and the customer would be able to stack their things upward. Maybe two 10×10s side beside for the price of 10×20 would be okay. Or maybe the customer does not need a 10×20 unit for two months, and something will become available before then. The secret shopping evaluator will advise the self storage management staff that the employee needs to answer the customer with, No, we do not have any 10×20 spaces at this time.  But what we DO HAVE, and then continue with the call from there.

The secret shopping evaluator winces when she hears a self storage phone representative say, our price is ABOUT one hundred dollars.  The price is not about anything, it is what it is. When the rep phrases it this way it makes the customer think there is always room for negotiation, and if they call back tomorrow they can probably get a lesser price. Much better phrasing is, our price is ONLY one hundred dollars, which is a great rate for this area.

And finally, there are times when the secret shopping evaluator hears a phone rep say, if you want, give your name and phone number. The phone rep needs to take control of the call, and just professionally ask the caller for their information. Saying, if you want makes it far too easy for a caller to just say, NO!

To be the best mystery shopper, you definitely need to be focused. You have to know your plan of action and execute it. When you are not focused on what your goal is, how can you help the company that is paying you to provide the service for them? When going into a store or calling someone on the phone, to be the best mystery shopper you do not need to be distracted by what goes on around you. Stay alert and be ready for whatever comes your way.

To be the best mystery shopper you need to be able to adapt to the situation. With the companies that know they are being shopped often, the best mystery shopper can answer their questions without making the shopped person think they are being shopped. Most companies have associates that will try to throw even the best mystery shopper off course to see if they are a real customer or someone shopping them. The best mystery shopper has to be quick on their feet and a quick thinker. One example that has been seen is when some people make their secret shops over the phone. The company being shopped sometimes asks if they know where they are located so the caller knows how to get to their facility. Most cases, the mystery shopper says they know where that facility is coming from. Then the person being shopped asks them where they are coming from so they can give better directions. Well, most people would be stuck and stutter before giving the answer, but the best mystery shoppers replies in a way which will not give the associate a reason to believe they are being shopped.

The best mystery shopper should be prepared for what they have to do. If they shop on the phone, they should have a fake name and phone number to give if they need to. Some people try to wing their presentations and get caught sounding as if they do not know the answer. The person being shopped will most likely know at that point they are being shopped and then all of a sudden become the best sales person ever known to man. To be the best mystery shopper, you have to prepare and you have to pay attention. The slightest incorrect statement or slippage of words could result in the failure of the mystery shop.

As you see above, it is not as easy as you think to be the best mystery shopper. You have to be focused, pay attention, be prepared and be quick on your feet. Your mind has to be able to consistently fool the person being shopped. Do not let your over confidence in doing mystery shops allow you to make the mistake of being discovered as a mystery shopper.

Once this phase is well versed by your employees then the next phase of your secret shopping training should fall in which would be the actual presentation to someone who has never rented self storage before. Secret shopping involves a person that poses as potential customer and tries to rent self storage. Those tend to be a bit easier as normally you would simply take the customer by the hand and walk them through the entire self storage process and the caller is o.k. with that. So those too need to be practiced, memorized and used to obtain the maximum effect for the secret shopping training.

Once the above has been completed and successfully versed in the new employee, then it is time to put it in writing. Some sort of scripting always helps the memory and the secret shopping training. A secret shopping tip, have a quick script handy with you at the front desk so in case you are having one of those days you can refer to it in order to get everything covered. Before my career in the storage business, I’m sure I had driven past countless storage facilities without ever taking notice. Maybe this is true for many Americans who have yet to find a need for self storage. But what happens when they do need a place to store their daughter’s college dorm room for the summer, or put their parents’ houseful of items into storage? They might not have any idea that self storage is more than an empty shell to fill their stuff with.

Educating self storage customers should be at the forefront of every self storage owner and property manager’s mind. Consider that nearly every other industry and specific retailer has trained consumers about what services they should expect within specific industries. Customers shop around and look for the best deal when buying a new car, they know how to bargain for furniture, they compare the fine print between which cell phone provider offers what.

For example, today I bought a bed for my toddler. Several weeks ago, I knew I’d be purchasing a bed so I called my local stores. When I made the calls, I simply asked for the price of the cheapest twin mattress. There were a few furniture stores that refused to give me the price over the phone and insisted I come in, most rattled off a price between $150 to $200. Only one facility asked me what was creating my need for a twin mattress, told me about the features of their mattress, and reminded me I’d also need a frame and because kids tend to spill and make messes, I’d need a mattress protector. Although that facility quoted me the highest price, I was very close to going there to buy the product.

Consumers have been trained to seek out the best deal based on their needs. So when a situation arises that requires offsite storage, they expect the self storage manager to take care of them by understanding their needs and offering them the best solution. Asking the customer a few key questions is still, hands down, the best way to build an accurate self storage quote.

Tron has told stories about going down a list in the phone book and calling self storage facilities to measure their sales skills. You may or may not be surprised to hear him say that it takes several, sometimes 10, calls to get someone to sell their facility to him and ask him to reserve a storage unit.

Because consumers are more savvy than ever, they will find the facility they feel is the best value for their dollar. If you, as a self storage manager, fail to tell them about the access controlled gate and video surveillance, UPS and Fed Ex pickup services, covered loading docks, free truck, etc. but your competition tells their customers about those features, your customers won’t think you forgot to tell them. They’ll assume you simply don’t have that much to offer. (And isn’t it a shame that we use business as an excuse not to provide excellent service.)

Capturing every opportunity to earn a new tenant in more important than ever. One way to tip the scale in your favor is to teach your customers about the services you offer. Tell them during your first contact with them and you’ll leave a lasting impression that will bring them through your door.

It is typically difficult to get all information needed to accurately model an acquisition in a timely manner. This is due to the vast amount of information that must be processed in a short due diligence period as well as the type of ownership, mom and pop sole proprietorships. Competitive analysis must also be done to fully evaluate the business. This involves mapping competing facilities, obtaining their rental rates and other information about the facility, such as security features, retail products, and other amenities. Competitors should be compared to the targeted acquisition, based on all amenities as well as quality of location based traffic counts, street size, visibility, accessibility, neighborhood quality and demographics.

The goal is to help the economy by keeping homeowners out of foreclosure as a result from the housing slump. Extremely high foreclosure rates would force people to leave their home and would have a rippling effect throughout the economy.

The self storage industry will be affected no matter which way the housing market rises or falls. But is self storage in danger of seeing a slump of their own?

Homeowners value their treasures and belongings such as wedding albums, family heirlooms and handmade crafts maybe more than they do the four walls they live in. After all, it’s those things that make a house a home. If they were forced from their home, those items wouldn’t be sitting in the dumpster. Families would look to self storage for safekeeping their belongings until things start looking up for them.

If President Bush and Mr. Paulson’s plan does keep Americans out of foreclosure, then those consumers would continue spending, and collecting more treasures. Families will find themselves needing extra space to store Christmas decorations and knickknacks and look to self storage for the answer.

It looks like self storage owners are still wise investors in an industry that has proven necessary for all walks of life by meeting humanity’s basic needs, shelter.

How you help people accept your offering is by understanding before you counter. If someone is raising a concern, allow them to tell you what their concern is. You may have heard this concern 57 times today, buy if you cut that person off thinking you know what they’re saying; they’re not going to like it. So let people finish what they have to say. Understand what they said. Try to look between the lines to understand their emotional position. Use paraphrasing to help them to explain it some more, and then assure the person that what you are offering is a good thing. That’s how it works. Understand before you counter, assure that person that their concern is not a new concern. Show them how your offering takes these concerns into account and makes everything better.

Another big reason why they stay is because it’s a bigger pain to move out than it is to pay their current self storage rate, and that’s the simple equation. People pull out their checkbook and think to themselves, Nah, it’ll be a big pain to move out. I’ll just write the check.

Or they look at their credit card statement or their bank statement and see the charge to you. They think to themselves, I’ve already spent a bunch of money on storage. But you know what? It would be a huge pain to decide what to do with my stuff and even a bigger pain to move out, and they stay another month. This is exactly the thought process and behavior you need to stimulate in your customers.

They are buying time to decide what to do with their stuff. They’re buying time because they don’t really want to take care of their situation now. That’s especially true if they’re moving or they have a death in the family or they’ve got some favorite items that they should just don’t have room for now, or they’ve got four lawnmowers when they really only need two. First and most importantly, one should determine the necessity of implementing and using BI in small and mid size business. Small and mid size businesses have comparatively rather limited resources in terms of funding, human capital, material and market shares. Hence it becomes even more important to be more effective in product development, production, marketing, advertising and sales in order to grow market shares as well as increase competitiveness and profitability. That is where BI becomes even more important; by allowing for collection of data and analyses, the given organization may be enabled to pursue more effective modes of operation which in turn are meant to steer the company toward more competitive standing in terms of effectiveness and efficiency.

Secondly, it is important to explore the ability of small and mid size business to take advantage of BI by effectively and efficiently implementing it. One of the most significant factors is the nature of cost and available resources. In general terms, the limitations of resources may be the greatest burden to overcome, however, the smaller organizations may have alternatives. Historically large external service providers such as IBM, GeoVu and HP have provided a wide range of BI services to large business. Those services range from design, planning, hardware, and software. Though most of even those large service providers offer solutions for small and mid size businesses, it is expensive and may require internal resources that may prevent those organizations from using those external services. For instance, the cost could depend on factors such as the required hardware and software as well as quantity of users.

Consequently it is important to determine the alternatives and choices of small and mid size businesses to utilize BI in an appropriate manner. Two of the rather common software applications that have been used in small and mid size businesses are File Maker Pro and Microsoft Access.

File Maker is produced by File Maker Inc. In essence, File Maker software allows for organizational data collection by enabling the user to take advantage of database driven data collection, storage and access. File Maker allows the user to design specific databases for individual projects which in terms allow for data collection and analysis. File Maker inc. offers several versions including packages for individuals, academia, non profits, government and small businesses. Essentially this particular software is designed to make data collection and data sharing universal, real time, as well as available to all key personnel.

Similarly, Microsoft Office Access is designed to enable the end user to take advantage of database and its valuable impact on data collection and data analysis. Similarly to File Maker products, there are several versions including standalone MS Access as well as the combination of all MS office suite, with different licensing agreements depending on end users.

The main difference between Microsoft Office Access and File Maker products is within their cross functionality and market shares. Microsoft Access is cross compatible with a wide range of Microsoft Office products such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point, which are all very popular and commonly used in business, government, non profits and academia. Another rather not obvious but important advantage of MS is its existence in Academia: most universities and higher education institutions either use of recommend using MS software due to price advantages as well hardware availability on campuses. This naturally leads to generation after generation of college graduates that are virtually proficient in using MS products hence resulting in reduced costs of training for employers which in turns creates greater market shares.

On the other hand, there maybe advantage to using File Maker products. The manufacturer argues that its products are superior to MS Access because of its better security features, improved macros and queries, better graphic user interface (GUI), and most importantly the self explaining nature of its products.
Both software are available on Windows and Mac platform and cost less than $200 for basic versions, whereby per user licensing may increase the cost. Additional cost may depend on additional components such as server space, script ad on as well as individualize programming.

Moreover it is important to explore as to how such software can have practical application in every aspects of small business. There are several general ways in which such software can be significant.

First and foremost, database driven application allow for individualization of data collection. For instance in Microsoft Access, the user can chose from many options such as how to name each field in tables, format in which data are saved or retrieved, report format and details, specific queries, individual modules and end result output. Such customization and/or need based designed may have several impacts, including creation of expertise, experimental design to improve decision making, and flexibility to change at will without delays or reliance on third party.

Secondly, the availability of such detailed reports and information creates a robust mode of inter organizational communication by providing the same quality and quantity of information to all stakeholders and participants. For instance, departmental decision makers have uniform data which can be their base of decisions as well as their ability to cross organize departmental and/or individual internal and external efforts.

Thirdly, since all the stakeholders and participant have the same information, the decision making process becomes more transparent which in turn may positively impact the decision making process as well as cross coordination among different divisions and decision makers. Similarly, uniform data availability may impact the customer service aspect of business by allowing the decision makers to provide continuous and uniform service based on constant information.

Fourth, uniform data availability will create a viable platform for performance measurement: data availability may enable the decision makers to mine and examine the results of departmental and/or individual contribution/s and performance/s which in turn will enable the decision makers to have the quantitative platform for fair and viable performance evaluation. For instance, budget projections can be judged retrospectively based on their accuracy and viability which in turn may enable the appraisal of management and/or all participants in compiling budget projections. 

Fifth, business intelligence and use of appropriate software such as MS Access or File Maker Pro may create a more effective mode of communication and decision making among small businesses and their respective vendors. For instance, it may enable the sma

Decisions are made everyday, and it is described as intelligently processing information that will result in rational decision making. A manager undertakes the responsibility of making rational choices by being logical and consistent in a decisive manner. Assessments of descriptive, normative, and behavioral decision theories will be the theoretical foundation of this paper. Also, the three different theories will be discussed in relation to teamwork, diversity, and the ethics of organization.

Main Conclusions

The theories examined in this paper illustrate three different types of decision making; each of them influences the process of decision making in an organization differently. The descriptive decision theory concentrates on the immediate solutions, while the normative decision theory has an idealistic standpoint – opposites of extreme. The behavioral decision making theory acts as a middle-man where its main purpose is to be the mediator between the descriptive and normative decision theory. In spite of their differences, all three theories share one common feature: rational decision in any give circumstances.

Recommendations

In order to run a successful organization, management has to understand the different theories behind decision-making process. Even though the theories are bounded by rationality, each theory values teamwork, diversity, and ethics at different levels. Thus, different levels of managements use different types of decision making process for the survival of the company. It is important to clearly distinguish the theories’ boundaries and limitations to successfully decide which variables are important at each level of an organization.

Decision-making

Decision making is not specifically reserved for the management; is done daily by everyone. From choosing home appliances to family dinner preparations, decision making is a part of everybody’s daily routine. To better comprehend the managements’ role of decision making in an organization, three theories of decision making will be discussed: descriptive, normative, and behavioral theory. However, for the purpose of easy comparison and contrasts, the theories will be analyzed in relations to management types: i.e. technical mangers, organization managers and institutional managers.

Background:

Decision making is more than randomly choosing an option, but a cognitive process or a thought-out process to achieve rational decisions. Individuals, from all levels of an organization make decisions. Not all decisions are multifaceted, but their decisions affect their job securities as well as the organization’s interest. A successful decision making process involves rationally analyzing the problems to achieve the most efficient choice that will compliment the situation. According to Walls “the premise behind rationality in organizations is based on the notion that reasonable people will respond to their environment by assessing known facts, estimating possible outcomes, and weighing those outcomes against their respective costs Decision making process differ from one level of management to another, however, they all share common responsibility; rational choices that are consistent, and “value-maximizing choice within specified constraints

Descriptive Theory

The descriptive or positive theory is a black-and-white concept where individuals visualize how things are rather than how things should to be. Descriptive theory focuses on the choices made in a situation, and considers decision as a single event  According to Shrode & Brown, the “descriptive decision theory is based on describing, as precisely as possible, the actual decision-making behavior of the decision-maker” and “how people…make decisions”. In a relation to management type, descriptive theory is associated with the technical managers, where their primary concern is to solve problems immediately and “have a short-run time horizon” Computational decision making strategies utilized by the technical managers allow them to solve problems swiftly and effectively since the solution to problems are accomplished by “computing various types of input and output data, and then manipulating the data in accordance with the criteria of rationality” According to Petit, solutions to technical managers problems are “quantitative in nature” and “concerned with concrete problems that require immediate solutions”

Normative Theory:

The normative theory, also called prescriptive theory, narrates how things should be, and lean towards philosophical approach in decision making. This particular theory utilizes well informed and rational individuals to organize alternatives that will lead to a successful end result that will benefit the organization in the long run. The normative theory carries ethical responsibilities as well as guidelines to seek optimum solutions. Thus, the normative theory “attempt to describe the behavior (or hoped for behavior) of a human decision maker…who wished to use intellectual tools to make decisions”. In relations to management type, normative is closely linked with institutional managers (IM) because they “have a philosophic point of view” and “rely in wisdom, experience, and philosophic insight in making important decision.” Decision strategy for institutional managers’ are judgmental because IM “have a long-run time horizon…The future is always hard to read and is highly qualitative: therefore it is interpreted subjectively.” Institutional Mangers’ primary responsibility to the firm is to insure firm’s survival by managing uncertainties of firm’s environment.

Behavioral theory

Behavioral theory implicates how people deal with uncertainties, and takes into an account both the descriptive and normative theories. Behavioral decision theory is bounded by rationality of the world, and the decisions are made based upon decision-maker’s perception on given situation. According to Brooks, Highhouse, et al, “behavioral decision…has shown that people’s judgment do not always derive from their underlying beliefs, but rather from the need to formulate their opinions as a result of having to express them.” According to Petit “behavioral theory of management has most in common with the social system school…social system school focuses on the organization and what we have called the organization level of management” The organizational managers synchronize technical and institutional managers’ transactions by acting as the mediator or an intermediary. Thus, the decision-making strategy of an organizational manager is to compromise in the interest of organizational viability.

Theories in relevance to teamwork, diversity, and ethics

Depending on the level of management or the structure of organization, variables such as teamwork, diversity, and ethical factors might illustrate an issue. It can increase the complexity of management’s decision-making issues. However, incorporating the variables into different management decision-making can increase open-line of communication, generate additional alternatives and ideas, and increase accuracy.

The descriptive decision theory focuses on immediate resolution of problem with little or no concerns to ethical issues, teamwork, and diversity. This is mainly due to the fact that the speed and the efficiency of decision-makings are valued rather than comprehension of knowledge and ideas. The second significant factor is the adaptability factor in self monitoring: “Individuals high in self-monitoring show considerable adaptability in adjusting their behavior”. I am convinced that those with conscious self monitoring factor realize the need for “whatever it takes” concept to achieve the greatest results for their organization. It is clear that such individuals realize that in a competitive work environment it is vital to adapt to all existing factors in order to create a greater sense of personal involvement, thus promoting organization goals.

The third important personality factor is risk taking: “To maximize organizational effectiveness, managers should try to align employee risk-taking propensity with specific job demands”. It clearly ties in to the previous concepts of Mach and adaptability: a manger will eventually have to realize that risk taking is simply a part of everyday business life. The best decisions can not always be made with complete information, rather than specific uncertainties will always be present. Thus a good manager will be willing to assess a situation and make a decision with the understanding of relative risk.

Ultimately, it is clear to me that a successful manger will have the ability to do what it takes by adapting to all existing factors with consideration of certain degree of risk. I believe that such characteristics are rather universal and independent from industry, market and economy fluctuations. Yet cultural and social factors may dramatically change the overall effectiveness of such approach.
