It is always curious what a customer looks for when they are shopping around for storage. There are many different shoppers out there, but what are they looking for. Some are looking for price, some are looking for convenience while others are looking for the facility with the best security options. The question is when the customer is looking for other things besides security, do they consider security at all?  Not everyone believes in or understands the need for security. Many customers have even been on the records saying that they do not care what happens to their belongings. The things that they are storing are not worth anything. If that is the case, the customer should just take their belongings down to the local dump instead of trying to find a space at their local Ft. Lauderdale storage facility.

In Florida many people need storage. The reason why they need storage will range to different reasons. For the most part it comes down to that they simply do not have the space at their homes for their extra belongings. They want to find a place that is going to hold on to their things until they are ready for them. When it is time to get them, they can just drive right over to their Ft. Lauderdale storage facility to retrieve them. If these belongings were at your home they would be behind a locked door and sometimes a security system. You would want the same for your belongings when storing offsite, right?

There are many different security measures that a facility would want to take into considerations. We will only discuss one of them here. One of the most important things to look for in a Ft. Lauderdale storage unit is the security which protects it. It is felt that the most important security feature a facility can have is that of an on site manager.  By having a manager on site, you know there is someone watching over the grounds.  That is because the storage facility is the manager’s back yard.  Also, by having someone on site all the time, they are easier to contact when in an emergency. The onsite manager will make sure that all is well on the facility and that your belongings are safe.

At your local Ft. Lauderdale storage facility, the onsite manager does many things for you and your belongings. Not only do they walk the grounds to ensure all is well, they make sure that other security measures are in place in order to keep you safe. They will ensure that the door alarms work properly as well as the cameras. Without them checking up on the other features, someone could potentially get into your belongings. This is not what they want to happen. They are please to be able to serve you to the best of their abilities.

It is just a great rule of thumb to check on the security of a facility before you rent. This way the facility will ensure that your belongings are safe and that they are picked up the same way they were dropped off. You would want someone to watch over your belongings carefully when you are not there. This is what you are actually paying for. When your belongings are at your home, you know they are safe. It is same piece of mind that you want to have with your Ft. Lauderdale storage facility.

There are many things that make a Hollis self storage location great. A lot of new shopper may think the most important thing is price when comparing sites in New York to one another. This is important, but it is not as easy at that. Cheap facilities have problems with leaking units, bad customer service, bad location, and bad security. These are all things that you need to watch out for when you are shopping for a Hollis self storage space. This article will highlight some of the security features that you should look out for when you are shopping around.

The location that you store at should have a pin accessed controlled gate that require a pin code for entry. This will control who goes in and out of the Hollis self storage facility and make sure only current renters are granted access. Once someone moves out of their storage unit, their pin code will no longer be active so they will not be able to access their storage unit. Most sites in New York will have a pin access controlled gate, but you should still ask about it when you call in for prices. Some sites may have a gate that is old and not functioning properly. This could be frustrating if it will not let you in when you need to get to your space. A broken gate may not be able to keep out criminals either.

The gate will not do much good if there is no security fence around the property. The fact is that Hollis self storage facilities are prime targets for criminals. Criminals know that a lot of valuable, and even priceless, items are stored at facilities and there are a lot of times when nobody is there after hours. A great security fence can make sure that they do not have the ability to get to the property after hours. The fence should surround the entire facility in order to be completely effective.

The site should also be monitored by security cameras. If the Hollis self storage site has several visible cameras for monitoring, it will add to the security of the site just because criminals may be scared off. The cameras should be monitored so that they can catch criminals who may try to get into the units. Unfortunately, standard cameras will not be that good at getting a good look at faces and license plate numbers. Some sites have upgraded to high definition cameras that are better at these things.

These are the main three security features that you need to look out for. The site may have some other features, as well. Look for door alarms on the units. This will alert the necessary entity to the fact that the facility you store at is being broken in to. Some sites may have security guards over night. This is a great security feature, but most sites do not do this because of the extra cost. You will probably pay a little extra on your monthly rate, as well. It is a great option if you are concerned with security. The lock that you put on the unit can serve as the last line of defense between you and a criminal. Locks are sold at the office and the disco locks are the best.

When it comes to keeping your belongings safe, it is easy to get hung up on shopping around for the correct self storage unit.  And no one can really blame you for that, reader.  I mean, as you are calling around, you are going to be taking in a lot of information.  Sizes, prices, security features, moving specials, property manager, store hours, and contract requirements are but a few of the things that you are going to have to keep track of as you are calling around, and it can get overwhelming fairly quickly.  Of course, if you know what you are doing, and if you know how to keep track of your information well, then you are not going to have many problems when it comes to renting the self storage unit that is truly right for your needs.

First of all, reader, you are going to want to be sure that you are using some kind of a spreadsheet to keep track of all of the information that you are getting.  The last thing that you are going to want to do, here, is fail to keep track of all of the information that you are going to need in order to make a smart decision at the end of the day.  By using a spreadsheet program, you can virtually guarantee that you are not going to have any problems in these regards.  You can simply sort your information by facility, creating a T-chart that you can fill in easily when you contact a new self storage facility.  This is how I shop around, and I have never had any problems when it comes to keeping my information straight.

Second of all, reader, you are going to want to develop an understanding of what you are actually looking for, here.  This, of course, is going to make it much easier for you to keep track of your information as well, as you are not even going to have to write a facility down if it is not going to meet your basic needs.  Keep your price range in mind as you are calling around, and be sure that you are not exceeding it.   Sure, you do not want to rent a cheap, shoddy unit that is not going to keep your belongings safe, but you are also going to want to avoid renting a unit that is going to entirely destroy your budget.  Also, you are going to want to be sure that you are renting a unit that is going to come with terms that you can truly agree to.  If you know that you are not going to need your unit for more than one or two months, for example, then you are going to have to be sure that you are renting it from a facility that offers month to month contracts.  There is no sense in locking yourself into a lease if you know that you are not going to need your self storage unit for that long to begin with.

As you can see, reader, shopping around for a self storage unit does not have to ruin your day.  So long as you are doing a good job when it comes to keeping track of the information that you receive, then you are not going to have to worry about wasting your time.

If you are dreading your upcoming self storage situation, then you are going to want to be sure that you are setting a solid game plan for yourself from the very start.  What I am saying, here, is that you are going to want to be sure that you are not making your self storage situation any more complicated than it has to be.  By doing some prep work, by calling around ahead of time, and by making sure that you consolidate your chores, you are going to be able to make sure that you are not falling behind in the vast, complicated game that is self storage.

The first thing that you are going to want to do, here, is make sure that you are not calling around without a solid idea of what you are going to need.  Here, you are going to want to be sure that you are sizing up your belongings before you even begin to place your first round of shopping calls.  To do this, simply get a feel for what your large items are going to be.  Figure out roughly how much floor space your larger items are going to require, and be sure to jot this down.  It may be helpful to keep track of precisely what these larger items are, as your potential property mangers are going to want to be sure that they fully understand what you are getting yourself into.  Do not become too impatient with your property manager when they begin to ask you detailed questions, as they are only trying to make sure that you do not end up renting a unit that is either too big or too small for your belongings.  They understand that you do not want to waste your money, and they are going to do everything within their power to help you avoid it.

Moving on, here, you are going to want to be sure that you are calling your local self storage facilities well ahead of time.  The very worst thing that you can do, here, is wait until the very last minute to start calling around.  When you wait until the very last minute, you virtually guarantee that you are going to be stressed out as you are calling around.  Of course, being stressed out is not going to help you make responsible decisions.  By calling around ahead of time, you are going to be able to convince yourself that there is nothing to fear, and that you are going to be able to find the right unit in due time.  Of course, when you are calling around ahead of time, you are going to be able to reserve a unit ahead of time as well, meaning that you are not going to have to worry about a facility running out of the unit that you are going to need at the very last minute.

As you can see, reader, there is not a whole lot of strategy that you are going to have to get into when it comes down to renting a self storage unit that is going to work out well for you.  So long as you are willing to follow a few simple tips, and so long as you are willing to avoid excessive stress by calling around ahead of time, you are going to be able to make your self storage situation work out perfectly for you in the end.  And of course, there is tons of free literature out there about making your self storage experience easier, so you do not have to stop your research at this article.
